W-Q62 Security Configuration

Wiseled’s W-Q62 security configuration extends the Axis Q62 PTZ with focusable IR illumination, integrated thermal detection and high-output white light, delivering enhanced perimeter surveillance beyond the standard platform’s built-in capabilities.

The Axis Q62 is one of the most widely deployed PTZ cameras in professional security surveillance. Its OptimizedIR illumination, 31x optical zoom, MIL-STD-810G rated housing and built-in object analytics make it a capable platform for perimeter monitoring and wide-area surveillance across commercial, industrial and public sector applications.

Wiseled’s security configuration extends that baseline in three areas where the standard platform has operational limits: IR illumination range and focus control, no-light optical performance, and active deterrence. The result is a system that integrates naturally into existing Axis and Teledyne FLIR-based security architectures while delivering capability the standard hardware does not provide.

Where Standard Platforms Have Limits

The Q62’s built-in OptimizedIR system is effective up to approximately 400 m and automatically adjusts beam spread to match the zoom state. For many perimeter applications this is sufficient. For sites with longer detection ranges, complex terrain, or a requirement for positive optical identification beyond 400 m in darkness, it is not.

Teledyne FLIR thermal cameras address the no-light detection problem effectively, passive thermal imaging does not require illumination and provides reliable detection in complete darkness and through light obscurants. However, thermal imaging alone does not support optical classification at the level of detail required for positive identification, and it provides no active deterrence capability.

The W-Q62 security configuration is designed to sit alongside and enhance both platform types, adding focusable IR illumination for extended optical performance and high-output white light for active deterrence, without replacing or disrupting the underlying sensor architecture.

Focusable IR Illumination

Wiseled’s IR illuminators are integrated to track with the Q62’s PTZ zoom state, maintaining a matched illumination field as the camera zooms in on a target. This differs from fixed-beam IR systems, which illuminate a wide field regardless of zoom position, resulting in reduced target illumination density and degraded image quality at longer ranges.

The focusable approach delivers consistent illumination at the sensor’s field of view across the full zoom range, supporting reliable optical classification at distances beyond the standard built-in IR system. Available in 850 nm and 940 nm wavelengths:

  • 850 nm, standard for most commercial security applications; maximises CMOS sensor response
  • 940 nm, reduced visibility to the naked eye; appropriate for applications requiring lower observable IR signature

Thermal Channel Integration

For sites requiring 24-hour passive detection capability, the W-Q62 security configuration supports integration of a Teledyne FLIR thermal channel alongside the Q62 optical system. The thermal layer handles wide-area detection and alarm triggering in conditions where visible and near-infrared imaging is degraded, complete darkness, rain, light fog, and high-contrast lighting environments.

Target handoff from the thermal detection layer to the Q62 optical channel, with Wiseled IR illumination activated on cue, provides a complete detect-then-identify workflow without requiring operator intervention at the transition point. This architecture is consistent with established Teledyne FLIR integration patterns and uses standard ONVIF-compliant interfaces for VMS compatibility.

Active White Light Deterrence

Active deterrence, the use of visible light to warn or discourage intruders, is increasingly specified in perimeter security systems where unmanned monitoring is the norm. The W-Q62 security configuration includes high-output white light illumination that can be activated independently from the IR channel, either manually by an operator or automatically on alarm trigger.

These options support a graduated deterrence model: IR surveillance as the default monitoring mode, white light as a first warning activation, and laser dazzle for targeted deterrence of confirmed threats where white light alone is insufficient. The escalation sequence can be pre-programmed as part of the site’s standard operating procedure or managed by a control room operator.

Typical deployment contexts include

  • High-output white light – high-intensity visible illumination that floods the field of view at operational ranges. Functions as a warning signal, degrades the subject’s night adaptation and supports high-quality visible-spectrum recording for evidential purposes.
  • Green laser dazzler – directed green laser output for targeted non-lethal deterrence at extended range. Effective against both dismounted individuals and airborne platforms. Compliant with applicable laser safety standards and operated within defined safety envelopes.

Integration and Deployment

The W-Q62 security configuration is designed for integration into existing security architectures without requiring platform replacement. It is compatible with standard VMS solutions supporting ONVIF Profile S and Profile G, and with Axis Camera Station and Teledyne FLIR’s United VMS. Wiseled illumination modules use standardised interfaces and are documented for system integrator and OEM use.

Typical deployment scenarios include

  • Commercial and industrial perimeter protection, logistics, manufacturing, energy
  • Ports, airports and transport infrastructure
  • Data centre and utility facility security
  • Public sector and government estate perimeter monitoring
  • Temporary and deployable security installations
